POINT NUMBER ONE
Building dense muscle takes months and in some cases, years to occur. It doesn't happen overnight just by touching something heavy! If getting jacked was that easy, every man would be a replica of Arnold back in his Mr. Olympia days. Think about that for a second... If guys who have way more testosterone than you, who read every bodybuilding magazine they can get their hands on, who buy every bodybuilding supplement they can afford, and who are ACTUALLY TRYING their hardest to look like that can't do it, how can you? Now I'm not trying to pick any fights or offend anyone here, but think about this too... How many of you have husbands, boyfriends, etc. who go to the gym on a regular basis to work out? Probably all of you. Now, how many of your husbands, boyfriends, etc. look even remotely close to that picture of Arnold? My guess is close to ZERO. See where I'm going with this?
POINT NUMBER TWO
Your fears are based on a widespread fallacy that weightlifting, a.k.a. Olympic lifting, and bodybuilding are the same thing... THEY ARE NOT! Please take a minute to visit the following links describing the distinction between weightlifting and bodybulding:
- Weightlifting: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Weightlifting
- Bodybuilding: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bodybuilding
See the difference? Weightlifting is used by elite athletes to train for explosive and functional strength. Bodybuilding is the process of maximizing muscle hypertrophy (building bigger muscles).
Why are explosive and functional strength exercises beneficial to you? More explosive strength, a.k.a. power, will allow you to work harder, faster and exercise with more intensity! What's the benefit of exercising at high intensity? More fat loss! Look: http://www.topendsports.com/weight-loss/weightloss-intensity.htm
POINT NUMBER 3
Take a look at the typical routines of Olympic lifters and bodybuilders:
Olympic lifter's routine:
http://www.mikesgym.org/programs/index.php?show=program&programID=10
Bodybuilder's routine:
http://www.flexbodybuilding.com/12weekmass.html
Which one of the above programs contains exercises that we actually do? Hmmm, let's see...THE OLYMPIC LIFTER'S of course! Sure there are common exercises we share with bodybuilders such as the squat, the pull-up, and the deadlift, however those are three foundational movements vital to ANY program. Notice how the bodybuilder's routine doesn't contain clean and jerks or snatches! Why? Because the goal of a bodybuilder is to get bigger, not build explosive strength and become more metabolically efficient!
Here's Iris Kyle, a professional
BODYBUILDER:
(Extremely muscular? Yes!):
Here's Nurcan Taylan, a champion
OLYMPIC LIFTER:
(Massive and scary? I think NOT.)
I REST MY CASE...
