The "Older, Wiser" article is perfectly accurate but still leaves out the fact the muscle mass deteriorates as age progresses after 55 or so. That adds to the problems of extreme exercise 'after 50'. You wind up working hard just to maintain what you have rather than improving performance. That's why it's difficult to compete with younger people who are improving with age. Another item that the article doesn't mention is what always has to be considered...individual conditioning, whether related to ovrerall health or genetics. What's 'extreme' for one at any age isn't extreme for someone else. There is, however, no getting away from the stress on the joints, especially due to repetitive exercises. In the final analysis, you've got to play it by ear.
